The women’s suffrage movement had began nearly a century before the ratification of the 19th Amendment of the Constitution on August 26, 1920. It was soon followed by the Cable act in 1922 which allowed women to be U.S. citizens independently from their husbands. These big moments marked great positive changes for women in the 20th century.  Not only could women finally be independent but they could finally have a role in government. The 19th Amendment brought about new roles for women.
