History 390 Final Project

This change not only sprung up on in the United States but in Europe as well. One of the first women to cut her hair in a bob-like fashion and wear pants was the designer Coco Chanel of France. She was probably one of the most influential women in fashion of the 20th century. This “new women” fashion even reached countries like Japan (and even Korea), where the popularization of the modern girl or the “moga” emerged (although they were less popular than actually portrayed by the Japanese media).

Women’s suffrage and the change in women’s roles in society brought about great social and cultural changes in 20th century society. The 1920’s brought about a new world that no longer had room for repressive Victorian era corsets.
